The Leading Ladies
The outfits range from business casual to sweatpants, which is where things get tricky.
But don’t worry, everything will be covered in this post!
The term first became popular in the 90’s with the “original super models”. Such as: Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Cindy Crawford.
The resurgence of the term “model off duty” came around 2019, followed soon after by “clean girl”
Clean Girl: “Girls who take pilates classes, eat fruit salads and vitamin supplements, smell like vanilla, are always in Lululemon and alo yoga, drink kale smoothies, and remain single.” – Urban Dictionary
The fashion differs, but where they undoubtedly collide is the makeup and hair.
Hailey Bieber is known for her natural “no makeup, makeup” looks. The model off duty trend is all about being effortless, and Hailey Bieber nails it.
The fashion
Again effortlessly chic anything will do, but there are four core groups of “model off duty” outfits.
Leather Jackets, Button Ups, Mini Dress, and Athleisure.
Leather Jackets
Leather jackets paired with another key component of this trend, true denim. A solid pair of vintage denim jeans MAKES any model off duty outfit.
Similar to makeup, Hailey Bieber pushed this trend.
As you can see she is also a big fan of loafers & ankle socks.
Button Ups
Business casual had a grip on us in the early 2000’s, and it’s creeped it’s way back into our lives, just in different ways.
Your classic button up with NEVER be out of style, trust me on this one. Whether you’re actually wearing it to the office, or layering it for your trendiest look yet, a button up will not let you down.
Let’s see how the off duty models do it.
There are SO many ways to style a button up. Two of the easiest are as a dress, and tucked into jeans with a thick leather belt. Pair with white sneakers, loafers, or pointed heels.
Or where it like the Hadid sisters and go dressy on the top, cozy on the bottom with sweatpants or sweat shorts!
Mini Dress
Definitely lean towards neutrals and away from bright colors for this one. It should be giving I just woke up from a night out and have to be at brunch in 30 minuets.
Brush through your hair, slap on sunnies, add a pointed heel, boom you’re basically Kendall Jenner.
Athleisure
This right here is quintessential model off duty.
Matching sweat sets, vintage crew necks with biker shorts, and onesies. Certainly the most commonly copied model off duty style for the every day women.
Tips for Model Off Duty Athleisure
-Ankle or tall socks with sneakers as opposed to no-shows.
-Layer up the gold jewelry with your sweat sets.
-Layer a tee shirt underneath your crew necks.
-Experiment with low and high waisted sweats.
-Try covering your ears with a thick head band (see Bella above for an example).
